Employee Ownership

Our founder was a strong believer in the free enterprise system and wanted his employees to share in the success of the business. In 1982, on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Company, employees purchased a majority interest in the business to insure that the Company would remain employee-owned. Twenty-five years later, our Board of Directors approved the formation of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to further promote an employee ownership culture and ensure a more uniform distribution of stock among the employees.

Today, Barclay Water Management, Inc. is the oldest and largest employee-owned water treatment firm in North America and is 100% ESOP-owned. Each year the Company contributes stock to the Barclay ESOP Trust which subsequently allocates these shares to individual employee accounts at no cost to our employees. Employee ownership helps makes us successful. All new hires become stockholders and participate in our ESOP after just 200 hours of service.

Barclay Water Management, Inc. is an active member of The New England Chapter of The ESOP Association and a member of The National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) based in Oakland, California.

Barclay’s commitment to create wealth for our employee-owners and expand career opportunities has not gone unnoticed. In 2007 Barclay Water Management, Inc. received national recognition when it was named one of North America’s Top Workplaces by The Wall Street Journal and Winning Workplaces of Evanston, Illinois. This prestigious award recognizes exemplary workplaces that provide exceptional opportunities for employee development and growth.
